Looking for recommendations for cockpit seating for a 265 Express. We do not fish but do need to consider lowering the transom when the motors come up. Looking for something like Intrepid does with their removable bench seats? Any suggestions? We currently use a few Yeti coolers but are looking for more comfort.

I use 2 beanbags in the corners and a large cooler with a cushion on it in between. I had the folding chairs before the beanbags. Everyone prefers the bean bags to the chairs. This allows me to move stuff in case I have to fold the transom door down. I will look to see if i have a good picture of the setup.

Another vote for deck chairs - they work great. But I'm curiously fascinated in the bean bag use... :D Do people sit high enough so their heads are well above the gunwales? And... do they automatically get a bag of Cheetos to munch on?

You could also build a simple bench and use some quick-attaching type hardware to lock it down (and/or chocks) if you wanted something a little more 'built-in' looking.

Dennis;
I believe the bean bag option is for crew members who are more concerned with a comfortable passage each way than a view. The Cheetos option probably varies from Captain to Captain.

I also agree with the deck chair theory. We use them and fold them up/put them away when done.

So it might be Fritos one day and Cheetos another?

I've never thought about bean bags on a boat. But, it does sound like a comfy seat!

We use both on a 265. I like the deck chairs for a blended or "no" fishing trip. I prefer less stuff on the deck on a serious fishing day. We carry the bags on a "just fishing" trip. they bungy to the roof easy while not underway. Kids prefer the bags. wife prefers the deck chairs.

The bean bags come in small, medium, large, teardrop, with arms , without etc. I have 2 small ones that my grandchildren use but they work for small adults as well. VERY comfortable and no worries about tipping while underway. The 2 main manufacturers are E Sea Rider and Ocean Tamer. You can also get them in colors .

Wow..you dont realize just how quiet those engines can be until you see this video. All you hear is the hull cutting the water.

john,
yea. pretty quiet. I have put some dynamat strips inside the cowlings. that helps a little. it had a huge affect on my 225 honda motor.
I think the fact that the motors tucked under the transom door on the 265 helps also.
plus we were in the sweet spot of about 3800 rpm. it gets much louder after about 4500 rpm.

I'm really pleased with the F-225s. mine were corroded and i replaced both legs with the new style mufflers. I know for sure that helped. one motor was leaking exhaust into the wrong spot. the windshield also helps with wind noise.

how has the dynamat held up? i've been wanting to try it for years but worried the glue would fail and cause a mess.

also, did you remove all the original foam or glue directly to the foam? i've heard the latter approach works better as a sound insulator.

dave. dynamat is vicious. its not coming off easily. It's been on my race car for 10 or 12 years with no issue. only been on the yammis for 3 or 4 months. I'll keep you posted.

battleship. what about a flush mount stiletto or pedestal mount for a a typical helm seat. Mounted on the port side bench next to the helm chair. the wife wants another helm chair option, but nothing permanent. could be removed and covered with the cushion when not in use. just throwing it out there.

dale, 265 express.
