Destin to Biloxi or New Orleans?

Planning a few trips west the next few months, have never been west of Orange Beach, AL so far. We would like to do some cruising over to maybe Biloxi or Gulfport or even New Orleans. I'm totally familiar with FWB/Destin to Key West, but have never been west.

Resources? Cruising guides, books, where would you start to plan trips like this? What marinas would be available, services, all that? Things to avoid, bad marinas, navigation issues, etc?

Pretty sure you can transient dock at the Maritime & Seafood Industry Museum (http://www.maritimemuseum.org/) in Biloxi which is within (a long) walking distance to a few casinos. The "Isle of Capri" casino may also have slips open. You can run up the back bay into Gulfport to "The Dock" (www.thedockgulfport.com) for excellent food and fun - not sure about overnighting. Farther west is the Pass Christian Yacht Harbor with another fun place called "Shaggy's". Not sure what's back between there an NOLA - lot's of places still rebuilding.
