I just purchased a 2000 223 tournament with dual fuel tanks. The filler caps are right next to each other. I don’t know which is connected to the main tank and which to the auxiliary. Also what is the fuel capacity in each? Thank you.

The fillers are generally mounted in the same order of the tanks. The aux tank is usually forward.
The main should be 92 gallons and the aux 56.

That is interesting. When I bought my 1988 24 offshore, the 93 gallon tank was factory installed in the front compartment and the aux tank compartment (rear) was empty. I added a 25 gallon tank and a 25 gallon fresh water tank in that compartment since then. I noticed that the boat rides better when I burn off the 25 gallons in the rear tank first. I use my Yamaha fuel management gage to know when to switch tanks. Did Grady move the main tank back and put the aux up front in the later years?

Auxiliary is forward, main is rear, 148 gal total, 10 gal water in the middle. 2004 228 Seafarer.

Thanks for the helpful feedback. I just found a diagram showing the location of the main and aux tanks. The aux tank is forward and the main tank aft on the 223 but that configuration is reversed on the 225. not sure why they made that design change.

Were the model years the same on the 223 and 225 that you compared?
The reason to put the main tank forward is usually to balance the boat.
