What's going on all, been lurking for a couple years. Finally made a profile with my now 3rd Grady. (This one is here to stay)
I'm looking into repower options but really looking for performance numbers and fuel consumption#s. Everything is on back ordered right now so it's not a rush for me to repower.
Have a 246g Explorer currently with a 2010 225 etec with 1500hrs
Fuel burn is right at 12 gph @23 kts @around 4300 rpm depending on conditions and load. Looking for rough numbers for hopefully a Suzuki 300. Have looked into Yamaha but have had a host of issues on different boats in the past. If anyone has any info from their boat and a similar repower it would be much appreciated. Tight lines

I have the same boat (1992). In 2016 I repowered with a SHO VMAX 250 Yamaha (4.2 litre). Awesome motor and something I should have done much earlier. Started with a 225 2 stroke and then to a 225 four stroke. Big block motor has the power needed to get the boat up and running quickly with enough power to get through some sloppy seas when needed. Don't know of your previous issues with Yamaha but this is my third one and I would buy another.

What shaft length are you running? I thought the SHO was only available in 20 or 25"?

Not knocking Yamaha, I know allot of guys love them and they're typically great motors. My friend had a 250sho and loved it till he sold it with 600hrs on it. I've had a number of Yamahas with miscellaneous issues throughout the years with sws2 (love sws2) and early and up to date 4 strokes. Also have a few close friends who work on them and the random issues they get in is a put off for me. They work on the same Suzuki motors and have yet to have a major issue in the numbers they get the Yamahas in for.
Now as far as the platform.. I love my 246g. Honestly think it's one of the best platforms for the size. The power on them I agree needs to be 250 minimum. I know the 250 Yami sho makes closer to 300 so that's the ticket.
What kind of fuel burn numbers are you getting with the sho?

Running a 25" shaft - proper for the boat. Economy is actually better than with the 225 as I don't have to run it as hard - although it's nice to have the power when I want it. Average day of fishing - some running hard, some trolling and some cruising burns about 25 gallons of fuel for a 60 - 75 mile day. Don't really pay attention to the numbers. Top end with two people and full fuel is 44-45 MPH.

I have a 244 Explorer with the Zuke 300. Just got back from 45mile off shore trip. Had a good load and there was a good chop. 25mph at around 3mpg or around 9gph. I'm usually closer to 30 and under 10gph.

Ya that's about what I was guessing from other similar size boats with the same power. What Rpm are you running at 30?
