I am looking to buy an express 265. There are two choices a 2004 and a 2005, assuming both have the same electronics (fish finder/gps and radar) and engines ( 225 yamaha 4 strokes each@ 400hrs ). What would be fair market value of each be? I have been all over the internet but all I can see are asking prices and they are all over the place even after adjusting for options. Like anyone I do not mind paying a fair price but I do not have a bench mark or experience to gauge fair market value.

If this was before the market dropped, but we paid in the 80's for our 2004 last spring but now you should be able to get one for somewhere in the 70's or low 80's. Our boat had low hours, 144 to be exact, great paperwork on all maintenance, no expenses spared and it was babied. It also had a full array of Furuno electronics with backups to everything, a SAT phone and a custom Awlgrip light blue hull. The only thing keeping the price of the 265 from coming down as much as other boats have is their popularity, especially among guys who owned bigger boats and want to down size yet still be able to fish bluewater. It is a popular model with not a ton out there so if you find one in prestine condition it may be worth spending the few extra bucks because there are not a ton to choose from.

I have to bet 70 to 80k would be what these are selling for.

You never know - my buddy purchased a new boat and put his old (2004 34'er) up for sale - first offer he is going to take.

Some people are into there boats so deep they NEED to sell them for unrealistic prices - others people are in the completly opposite side - maybe owe nothing and just dont want to (or cant) have boating a part of there lifes - these are the ones who will take quite a bite less!

Good luck - it is a great boat!

You guys didn't mention the region where the sale is offered greatly effects the price, on the east coast the prices south are much cheaper than in the north.

Besides the economic conditions, how many are for sale of same model is relevent, and time in the season. End of season better time to buy.

If you are interested in the best price or best price to value, or the best condition, you pick out say 3-5 of these boats, and evaluate them for condition and usage, options, electronics, motor maintenance records, etc, how far you will have to pay to haul it home, and it's asking price.

You may knock off a few once you come to realize the ad is not reality, then make a list of 1 to whatever with the most desirable on top, make sure you say you are shopping and looking at several offerings.

Then the other members can suggest a startin asking price by percetage below asking, they offer it and see how it floats. Off course you consider and don't ignore repairs that have to be done, add that in. Then do the same with next guy, etc.

If what I described sounds like home buying in current market, yes it is very similar!

When you have a winner and offer accepted, proceed with survey and engine evaluation.

Good luck.

8k of the price is the triple-axle trailer which was 13k when new. He will sell it without the trailer.
