Just finished changing the oil on my 2 F225s and I continue to have a challenge with the oil filters. I use an electric pump to remove old oil through the dip stick and it is easy and not a drop of oil. Then comes the mess.
I use an adjustable wrench to loosen the filter because a strap can't get at the filter. Does anyone use another tool?

When I remove the filter oil continues to flow from the connection point. I have tried drilling holes in the filter and draining them first - still a mess . I have put baggies around the filter and tried to contain the mess. This has limited success but still creates a mess-

I am doing these changes in the water so any tips would be appreciated.

Thanks

What I do when the filter is loosened, i tilt up the motor and put a 1 gallon bag around the whole filter and as much of the housing as i can then unscrew the filter with the bag, I generally dont drip much oil doing this,

These engines are still new to me. The first oil change was a mess. Next time I am going to take oil absorbent rags and pack them under the filter. I will have to see if i can get a small container and place it under the channel beneath the filter or just try the bag method.

I bought a nice cast aluminum cup style filter socket that fits over the end of the filter from my Snap On guy.
I believe Yamaha also has them and at one time I did see them on E-bay or maybe Sim Yamaha.

I bought a cup style filter wrench that fits over the end of the filter and uses a 3/8 socket. Available from most auto parts stores. Loosen the filter just so you can spin out with your fingers then turn the motor to the left and tilt it all the way up. A couple of oil absorbant rags and you are done.
