Hey Y'all,
how many here are Facebook Grady pages members? I know a few are . lately , well for a long while now I am just getting more and more social media fatigued with politics, riots, COVID and such. I am member of two Grady groups and it's nice seeing pictures , but I gotta say this group just feels like home to me. I find most here are sensible folks offering practical no nonsense advice and solid questions. I try to cut up some ,but I am curious if others are both which venue do you prefer?

I prefer this site over Facebook and I try to reference this site when responding to some posts as many of the questions in those groups were already responded to on this site.

I don’t believe some folks in those 3 groups are aware of this site.

On any given day, people here or there can be what they are. To be honest, never had a problem with the people on FB... never had one treat me bad or get upset because I posted. So, I think there is enough "traffic" on there to keep the egos in check. With any site, here or Facebook, you have people that think they run the show and will try to passively bully you till you either stop posting or flat out drive people away.

So, I think you have to alternate... on days when people are being just people.. go talk to someone else.. then come back when it dies down.

I have had far more people here, no offense, tell me they do not post because of the same reasons people shy away from FB or THT... so, while I personally think this site is the single best place to be if you own a Grady.... it is still people.. and people can and will be what people will be.

Not a slam on here. I post here far more than anywhere else.. but.. I call it like it is. If you are serious about boating, serious about learning more about your Grady....being a part of every site that can give you an edge on taking care of your Grady, understanding everything about it, and being a part of the Grady Community is a must.. here, there, wherever life goes.

I don't recall seeing anyone showing offensive or bullying behavior on this site. This is probably the most civil and peaceful site on the web. Excerpt for some Buddhist sites, maybe. ;)

lol Buddhist sites... do they have sites? I would think that would be too stressful for them ;)

Want to add, I am in no way slamming here. I am simply saying, no site is a paradise. We are all people.. human.. well, most of us.. lol. Saying this site does not have the problems of others, it simply does not have the traffic and thus it is not seen as much, but it exists.

Does that take away from this site? not in the slightest and, honestly.. it is probably the best site out there for Grady owners.

I am simply stating, they all have their problems and none are perfect because.. how boring would that be?

Oh, and probably should not ask questions or make statements like that .. lol.. love the site here.. but that is like a woman asking "does this dress make me look fat?".... there can be no good from it :p

That being said.. love this site, really do....but just because you do not see it, does not mean it does not occur... and just because it occurs, does not mean the place is bad. FB blows compares to this site, but it has it's uses and moments.

I like this forum and my local one, Coastside. I'm all hot and bothered about my new 228 so I tend to hang here mostly, but pop over to coastside for fish reports.

Finding me on Facebook is about as likely as me selling my 228 for $1. Not gonna happen, not now, not ever. Facebook is full of toxic cesspools of people who should crawl back under their rock and never be heard from again. Facebook is why we still aren't wearing masks like the rest of the sane world. Facebook - just say no. Greatgrady, hell yes!

GG is a 1000x better than the hull truth. My experience here in the last few months has been nothing but awesome because of the people here. Yeah, I did my part by not showing up pretending I know more than I know, I'm new to running a boat and I'm not shy about letting people know that. I don't know if that helps or not, all I know is that people have been polite, kind, have tons of experience, and are willing to share that with me at least.

Just look at the thread about the guy wanting to put a sky hook on his hard top here. Then go find the one I started on THT. So far as I remember, nobody crapped all over anyone in the GG thread, there were comments of maybe that wasn't wise, but it was reasonable. People immediately crapped all over me on THT. Needlessly, nobody died and left them in charge, they are just people. But they were behaving like the salty dogs that want to make fun of newbies. I hate that energy, I go out of my way to talk to people who seem new and let them know I was terrified the first half dozen times I went out. It gives them the space to talk about their concerns, it lets them know I won't judge them but I will try and help them.

The world could do with a lot less judging and a lot more helping. And it feels good, to me at least, to act like that. I get something out of it, it feels good to make a new captain feel like it is going to be OK, they'll get there. I can't imagine that it feels good crap all over some newbie, and if it does, what a pathetic way to get your jollies.

Whew, rant over, but man do I dislike THT, it's a cesspool compared to here. There is some good info there but it comes with way more crap than the same info here.

I second your thoughts on THT. There were a few posts I got walked all over there and this page everyone has been more than helpful and friendly. I will resort to the other page when needed for mechanical advised through searches, but GreatGrady is always my first stop.

Yeah, I was a little "booty tickled" as my son likes to say when I posted that, THT crapping on me and others is just so unnecessary, I think it is insecure people who want to lord it over newbies but I don't know. It feels like high school. GreatGrady feels like adults. This is a much better place and it doesn't seem that small to me, I've asked and gotten good answers to my questions.

I'll still use THT for stuff that doesn't make sense here but I won't like it. I have not figured out how to be accepted over there, it just seems like they want to crap on anyone new or who doesn't fit their mold. Not thrilled with them.

THT is horrible, but it serves it's needs. It is like a grocery store.. don't go there hungry lol.

Here, more laid back, more focused. FB.. more "immediate"... FB is the "fast food" of Grady life, here, is more like "home".. THT is like the "Loan Shark world" of "I need a more 'general answer".. lol

My point is, and not a slam on here... people need to take the good AND the bad, or not ask the question or broach the topic... ALL sites have ups and downs,.... no site is perfect. If we cannot say things like that, then you have exactly what you say you don't have....but it is "unspoken".

Again.. and since I am sure this will not matter... never seems to matter.. this site is awesome....it is why I have 10 times the years on THT and 1/10 the posts per year... So, stop getting offended. I am saying, just because people send me PMs saying "stop saying stuff" and no-one sees it, does not mean it does not exist... it simply means people send PMs and silense people and they take off and go to all those other worse places and you never hear about it.

THT sucks because too many egos think they know everything and cannot be wrong in their posts.

Now, either we are like them.... which we are not.. or.. we are better than that and in being so, we CAN say.. "hey... we are not perfect..." and not get 3 people sending you PMs asking you to change YOUR attitude.. or a moderator telling you there was an anonymous complaint. If someone is unable to say "you know what... this place is amazing.. but it could use improvement"...without getting people mad at them... in PMs.. then, we really are not a "haven of togetherness" as folks would think.

We are all human.. we are like any family.. we sometimes get along, sometimes don't... the beauty of this place is.. like a family... we get past it all and toast a drink and smile and say, "ya know what? we own Grady's... who the hell cares about the rest?" lol

Use the other places.. they are "take-out"... we are a "home-cooked-meal" :p

THAT is my point.

Russ

I cook a lot.. lol

As I have said to Russ in private message, I think people respond better if everyone thinks they are good people. Even the not so good people rise up and be good if you push that expectation on them. I am new so salt heavily, but I think this place is special, I think pretty much everyone here is trying to learn, trying to help, there isn't any high school shittiness, it's just adults exchanging information. And if someone slides in who wants to make it less positive, the way to deal with that is "Dude, we're all friends here, be nice". And then they will be nice. Or they should be.

But.. I call it like it is.. I am the old salty uncle that loves everyone, but does not have a filter heh

THT is an invaluable tool, if you use it for that, and not for entertainment, or for gutting your social needs met. The biggest thing it has to offer is traffic, and getting your questions answered 24/7, in just a few minutes, and if you are there long enough, you learn who to ask and who to ignore.
Not sure how many are on this site right now, but there are 4161 on THT at the moment.
Unless you like to mud wrestle in a sewer, stay out of the Bilge, and for the most part, Dockside Chat,

Amen.. 110% spot on. If you post there, you better make dang sure you did not look stupid or it will be a cold day in hell before they stop beating you with it.

FB is almost as bad.. but... good for more ..hrm.. "general questions? short... sweet.. specific".. almost "tell me about the cushions".. heh.

Here, you can dig as deep as you care to... just may have to wait longer to get more experience.. but it is usually precise and real experience.

And I like @SmokyMtnGrady - this was not.. I repeat NOT a dig at him or his post.. I was trying to say they all serve a purpose.. just as others have said.

Besides.. if I wanted to pick on him.. it would be because he has a boat that runs.. lol :p

Russ, I don't know what user name you have on THT, but there is a long time member there, RussH, who is known for his iconic posts, and at least 15 other users with Russ in the name, so people are not always aware of who they are actually talking to, or about.
