Hi all - my wife and I just ordered our first GW - a Freedom 255 (single engine 350 hp). We can't wait - although we don't plan to launch her until May, 2013 (we are in New England (Mass) for the summer boating seasons). I am a relative novice, so I am really enjoying reading through threads on this forum.

Any advice re: this boat or generic things to look out for in the freedom class is enthusiastically appreciated.

Best,

Brian

Congratulations and welcome to the forum.

Ask away...no question is a stupid question.

PS - we expect pics to be posted, as well.

Congratulations! we are into our third season with the 255 moved up from the 185. If you wanted to contact me with any questions I would be happy to discuss my thoughts. My wife and I and our Westie are primarily all that are on the boat and she is a great size and very comfortable. Not sure how you equiped yours but we went with the hard top and love that feature. With the drop curtain in place and the helm canvas on, you can boat in some cold wet weather and be comfortable. Ours has the 300 hp and she goes plenty fast with that and gets up on plane great, even with more people on board. So far so good for this engine although we have difficulty getting mid grade gas that it calls for, we primarily use 87 octane, no ethanol. We went with the windlass, great decision, wife talked me into that extra and we fish alot so nice to move around easily without hauling anchor by hand. One thing that I do have a problem with is the electric helm seat. We went with that and the sink cabinet behind. This is a great set up but I am not that big, 5'10" 180 pounds and I find that even when I set the seat to the closest position to the wheel, it is still too far back for me to use the back rest. I have to stick a few towls behind me so I can rest my back on the backrest. I had the Deluxe II seats on my 185 and preferred that. The one nice thing about the helm chair is it is wide so our Westie can travel beside me when we are underway. We went with the back to back sleeper seats with under storage. We like that as it is very comfortable fishing seat when facing aft. Takes up room of course but it works for us. We went with the porta potty with pump out, may have upgraded a bit there I think, although we seldom use it. One thing we said if we ever buy another new boat, I would not order it with canvas, I would have a good local guy do the canvas as you want it. We had some canvas done by a great local canvas fellow and it worked out real well, better fit and the snaps are managable, meaning you can get them off and on with ease. We are very happy with the way she handles and all in all a great boat.
Anyway, thats a little feedback for you, hope it helps.

Thanks all for the welcome and replies.

We also went with the hard top and windlass options. I'll post pictures in May when we launch her.

Best,

Brian

Congratulations on a beautiful boat. Be sure to post pics when you get it. We just bought our Freedom 225 and love it. I plan to post pics when the iPhone 5 comes out hopefully in October.
