Got my first offshore trip in this spring season down off of Port Canaveral in Fla. We were in Florida for the kids spring break last week. Went out twice and got a 1 blackfin tuna. Due to the economy and so forth I have been holding off on buying those outriggers. I did by these outrover bird teasers that run in line with the bait and they do keep the lines spread apart very nicely. It was a $70 gamble for a pair of them that seems to work. A week ago Sunday we got a nice dolphin on the line using the outrover. My brother wanted to bring along some of his tackle and unfortunately for me, his line is in need of replacing. The dolphin broke the line taking the outrover with him/her.
On our second trip out on Friday the warm water moved into the 120 foot depth range and we spotted dolphin all over. We trolled and trolled, tossed jigs and not a bite. I was listening to the radio and everyone else who was on the radio also got nothing. It is so frustrating to see the schools and not get a single bite. Oh well, that is fishing...maybe get to Charleston here at the end of the month to chase dolphin as they move up the coast.
