Freedom 235
I'm having serious upgradeitis. I love my 235 and it's perfect for the type of boating my wife and I do. However, I got to spend some time recently on my buddy's brand new 27' Sportsman with twin 200s...and man it got me wanting a little bit bigger boat. Twin engines are a game changer. If I do it, I plan to stick with Grady and get a 275 Freedom. Anyone here done the 235 to 275 move?

if your boat really is perfect for what you do, than anything different would not be perfect, right?

or did you realize that your current boat is in fact, not perfect?

I would like a slightly bigger boat with twin engines. Don't need it, but really want one.

Another option would be the "happy medium" boat which is in between the two you mentioned, and that would be the 255 Freedom? Slightly smaller in length than the 275 Freedom, but it does have same size of beam and it has an option for twin outboards. Might be the "Goldilocks boat" if you will, and won't be like the 275 Freedom that could cost you over $300k brand new...

I went from a 22' Hydra-Sports Vector to a GW 306 Canyon. It's a world of difference

id argue that that little of a difference isnt worth the effort or money

I considered the 255, but I have a feeling that I'll always wish I went with the 275. The next size up, the 285, is an entirely different boat and a whole different price category. I think the 275 is ideal...used. The used 275s in the 2021-2023 range cost about what I paid new for my 235. New 275s and 285s are just absurdly expensive.

I mean... the OP did say he wanted to go with a slightly bigger boat that has twins on it, which the 255 Freedom does check off all of those boxes. The 235 Freedom has a centerline length of 23'7", whereas the 255 Freedom is 24'9" and the 275 Freedom is 26'11". So, the 255 Freedom could be that perfect "in between" boat as it's only just over a foot longer, as opposed to the 275 Freedom which is just over 3' longer, but again it still has the same beam width as the 235 Freedom. If I'm understanding it correctly, it sounds more along the lines of the OP just wants the same size of boat that his buddy does, considering that he said his current boat was essentially perfect and that he didn't really need the bigger size, but just wanted to have it. I personally don't think he needs to "upgrade" either, but ultimately it's his decision on what he decides to do.

You mentioned in your first post that your buddy has a Sportsman, do you mean a Fisherman or a Freedom as well? Have you stepped foot on a 255/275 Freedom before? Not trying to dissuade you from going with a larger boat, just presenting another option, which also goes along with the idea that a bigger boat with twin motors is also going to cost more to store and maintain as opposed to a smaller one. Either way, good luck with whatever you decide on doing.

Some owners have said that the 275 ride can be harsh in certain sea conditions. I had looked at 275s but decided that there were enough somewhat 'negative' messages to make me reconsider.
The reviews on the ride for the 285 is much more positive..

As others have said; If the boat you have now is just about perfect for your needs, stick with it. Your wallet will thank you

Well yes... the 275 Freedom for some reason still has an 8'6" beam, even though smaller boats have wider beams than it does. You'd think it would have at least a 9' or greater beam like the 232 Gulfstream, or as you mentioned the 285 Freedom as well which has a 9'6" beam. Which kind of takes me back to my point that I said before, as you're just spending more money and getting a slightly longer boat with a 255/275 Freedom, but it's still the same width of beam. But hey, it's the decision of the OP and if he wants to spend the money then by all means do so.

Thanks. I was hoping to get some feedback from folks who have a 275, particularly anyone who moved up from a 235.

Also considering other 26-28' DCs like the Scout Dorado 277, Pursuit 266DC, and Blackfin 272DC.
