My 1983 Tournament 19 is powered by a 1989 Evenrude 155 commercial. The engine runs well and has good compression in all cylinders. Does anyone care to speculate what my average fuel consumption in gal/hr should be?

Leigh, if you're looking for speculation, thats easy....I think your 150HP motor with a 19 foot boat should use no more than 1 gallon per mile at cruising speed.

Bob P,

I learned the hard way that my fuel gauge/sending unit is not linear.I am trying to get a handle on remaining fuel after running for a while. I may install a fuel flow transducer to interface with my chart plotter.

Flowscan totalizers and the like are very good for this purpose, and accurate.
That's what I go by when refueling, right now when I hit 100 gals used, I refuel with 100 gals.

Fuel usage varies greatly with sea/wind conditions, loading, etc, better off with flowscanners for that purpose.

Bob P,

I have a Garmin 545S plotter/sounder. Garmin makes a flow transducer that will integrate with the GPS. The transducer is NEMA 2000 while my plotter is NEMA 0183 so the interface is through Garmins CANet protocall and seems a little fussy to set up. Street price for the transducer and CANet kit is about $180. The advantage of the Garmin setup over stand alone systems is that the data is displayed on the plotter so an addition gage is not required. One thing I don't like is that it reads 2-50 GPH so extended time at less than 2 GPH fuel flow is disregarded.

Anyone have experience with the Garmin setup?
