I have a 97 Marlin, with twin Yamaha 250 2 stroke FI engines. The starboard engine runs fine at about 3500 rpm but at 4000 plus it soon cuts out and can be restarted, and again cruise at the lower rpms but as soon as it is bumped up to 4000 it again cuts out. I've taken the gas valve from the top of the tank and cleaned it , replaced the fuel pump and filter, checked the line from the back hatch, and run the engine with the supply line from the port engine and it runs fine. Then I changed the fuel source over from the main tank to the starboard engine to the auxillary tank. It runs max rpms on the supply from the port engine and from the auxillary tank- so it's clear that the problem is in the fuel line from the main tank to the starboard engine. ( the port engine works fine on its supply from the main tank).
So my problem is there is about 150 gallons of fuel in the main tank and I need to replace that fuel line as it has debris or some obstruction that blocks the line at higher rpms. Has anyone else had this problem? How do I deal with the existing fuel?(150 gals is a lot of gas) How hard is to access the fuel line? Is there a screen at the tank that will need to be replaced? Am I missing something here?
The boat is docked in a marina in La Paz Mexico, so I can't go to my friendly Grady dealer for repairs- so all advice will be appreciated. Norm
