I was considering adding the Fuel Mgmt Gague to a 2005 Yamaha 225.
What does it take to replace the Stock Spedometer with the combo Spedometer/Fuel Mgment Gauge ?. Is there a better Way to do this ??

Get smartcraft guages. They are nearly dead on accurate from idle to WOT..... Oh wait, nevermind it is a Yamaha  8)

My father has lowarance fuel management on his 27 Judge but it has not been nearly as accurate as the Floscan he had on his last boat. He wishes he spent the extra money and went floscan on his current boat. The lowrance doesnt even like to recognize fuel being burned at idle or slow trolling with his twin 130 Hondas

The guages I have are centered on the dash in such a way that to add 3rd gague would also require replacing the panel .. That is why I am asking abou the Yamaha combo guage

I did the same upgrade on my 226.

You will have to run the harness for the fuel sending unit through the rigging tube to the back of the boat. The sending unit needs to be installed between the fuel filter and the motor. You will need to cut the fuel line, install the brass fittings in the sender, connect the fuel hose to the brass fittings, and double clamp the hoses. The sender mounts to the boat with two screws and needs to be mounted horizontally level.

The gauge itself is a plug and play deal. Remove the old gauge, disconnect the wiring and the hose for the pitot tube, plug in the new gauge and mount it in the dash.

If you want to get fancy, you can connect the gauge to your NMEA output and get your speed readings that way. Yamaha makes an adapter plug with 2 leads, or you can cut the black plastic plug off the back of the gauge and connect directly to the wires. If you do this, you need to also plug the pitot tube hose so water doesn't get pushed up into your dash, and you also need to change the DIP switch settings on the back of the gauge to tell it to look for the NMEA data.

I never calibrated mine....it was pretty accurate right out of the box.

Your GPS manufacturer may also have a fuel flow 'plug-in'. Garmin just came out with their GFS-10 which costs about half the Yamaha guage you're looking at. I suspect other manufacturers will follow.

gfs 10 looks interesting but then I need to set up the nema 2k network .
That also adds to cost. I don't know how it the interfaces on the software side with non Garmin plotter
