Looking at getting a 268 islander. Had the transom checked and from the garboard drain up to water line between the engines is wet. Grady says its perma panel. I don't own it yet. What would you do? Year 2000.

I like the damn boat too. Sucks. The rest is in good shape shape. A little moisture is normal I'm sure but this one area mentioned above is totally wet and the phyimonoc hammer (that's spelt really wrong) confirms the water is definitely there. Near it is a transom mounted transducer. Likely culprit.

What would you do if you wanted the boat?

If it's wet, it is highly unlikely that it will ever dry. I would contact Grady White and ask what their recommendations would be before making a decision.

Grady recommended a core sample from inside if owner agrees with invasive testing.

It's one area not the entire thing. Sucks the big one. The boat is an awesome boat.

I might get a second surveyor to use his meter on it to verify

Unless you can fix it yourself or can get someone you trust for short money, I suggest you move on. It will cost significant $ to fix and to be honest if owner(s) let this happen, then what else was neglected or done wrong.
