Having lost the anchor for my Sportsman 180 this weekend, I am in the market for another. The anchor I lost worked well and I would simply replace it if I knew the specifics. I do know it was a relatively small galvanized danforth-style. I'm looking at the Danforth Hi-Tensile 5H, however am not sure it will fit in the anchor locker due to the plate above the stock. I'm considering the Fortress FX-7 as an alternative. I'll hit some retailers this week to make the necessary measurements. In the meantime, has anyone else decided between these two anchors? Plan on going with about 6 feet of chain between 3/16" and 5/16" (TBD). Will be anchoring in sand/hard mud in around 10 -50 feet water.

Thanks,

Scott

I use the Fortress FX7 with my 228. You would probably want more chain than 6'. I have about 10 feet of 1/4" chain on mine.

I've not had problems anchoring in similiar depths (up to 90 feet). These anchors really bite and don't weigh a lot. I also use an anchor ball to retrieve on occasion and that really makes pulling the anchor easier, especially if you're alone.

when I had my 180 I used a 13 lb fluke anchor with 8 ft of 5/8 chain. all you ever need on that boat, you need more your are in water way out of the boats capacity
