Ask Norcoastal about his experience looking for a hardtop. I believe he was looking for one for over a year before he got tired and just ordered something local or online. A few things would help out tremendously here, like your location, your budget and so forth. I think your quickest and easiest bet would be to have a local shop fabricate one up for you, though that would also likely be the most expensive option. The cheapest would be to look on Craigslist, FB Marketplace, OfferUp and so forth to see if you can find one in your area, though that's likely going to be a bit of a stretch, but you might get lucky. Another option would be to buy a boat with the hardtop already on it, then either keep that boat and sell yours, or take the top off the one boat and put it on yours then sell the other one. There's a 1984 22' Seafarer down in Florida with a hardtop on it for $6,500 but again, I'm not sure where you're located at. I'm guessing NH based off the 603 area code? There was also another thread on this topic a few weeks ago and the link to that hardtop is posted below on FB, though again that hardtop is located in Florida as well. But the boat that it was claimed to be from was supposedly a 25' walkaround, which I'm guessing will have an 8'6" beam compared to your 22' Seafarer which will have an 8' beam, and will likely be too wide as well as require a bit of work to make it fit to your particular boat. Might be something where you have to take a roadtrip to find what you're looking for, but it could also be a roll of the dice depending on measurements/dimensions and if/how it fits your boat. Good luck either way.

Might want to look at a fabricator. The GW tops were maybe still cored with balsa so if they get wet, they are junk. They also tend to be tough to find and if you do, it will take work to get it back into shape.

Dave - You are looking for a needle in a haystack. There are no new-old-stock hardtops waiting for you. A 30 year old "used" hardtop will cost more to refinish than a new one would cost. I refinished my 25 year old hardtop myself. It came out perfect but it would have been too expensive to have someone do it for me. You will have to have one made for you.

Beware of idiotic posts that tell you to buy another boat. Probably an internet bot. The hardtop is still 30 years old. Some really stupid advice floating around on this site with no first hand experience. Most member responses are genuine. Beware though.

The walkaround / cabin has changed over time. So not all hardtops will fit all Seafarers.

Yikes, sounds as though someone has a case of the Monday's and/or is a Chiefs fan. The fact of the matter remains that if someone wants the original style of hardtop for their boat and their current boat doesn't have one, buying another boat with one, robbing the hardtop off of it and then selling the donor boat is still a great option. I imagine if buying the above linked boat for $6,500 and robbing the hardtop off of it, you'd still likely be able to sell the rest of it for at least half of what you paid for it and you'd only spend a couple grand out of pocket in doing so. Comparatively, if you went to any local fiberglass/fabrication shop and had them build one for you, you'd likely be into it at least that $6,500 price, if not maybe closer to $10k, maybe even more. That being said, I don't imagine having a shop build a fully custom hardtop for the OP's, or anyone else's, boat is going to be less than $5k. I imagine most places will be closer to $7,500+, depending on what all is involved, of which Norcoastal himself said that he spent over $6k on his hardtop. But as always, the support is always very much appreciated, and with that I'm bowing out so as to not get into a pissing match or derail another thread. To the OP, good luck with your search and let us know what you decide on doing, as well as total cost involved.

Buying a boat just to get the hardtop seems like a lot of work... time/gas/etc to go get it... title/registration transfer (and more money)... then dealing with a used top that may/may not actually be good (won't really know till you travel how-many-thousands-of-miles)... then sitting on two boats... one of which is, based on the prices, is probably going to need at least some rot repair... then the hassle of selling a rotten boat with big holes where a hardtop used to be... and possibly having to sell it for quite a bit less than you paid for it... Just seems like a huge hassle in real life.

It'd be better/easier to get a basic NEW tower for about the same money... but a LOT less hassle - Dave, if you're just looking for something simple, check out Atlantic Towers - they have a couple options including a "tower in a box".
