ALL,

We have a 2007 305 Express. She is kept in Key West and we try to get down there monthly to fish, dive, etc. We have noticed that we frequently have to manually run the forward bilge, even if the boat is just at the dock, and a significant amount of water always comes out.

Anyone know what may be causing this?

Is there a good way to make sure the automatic feature is operable on our bilge pumps?

Thanks in advance for any advice!

Make sure the switch is set on auto.
Close all your seacocks, pump bilge dry and see if the water returns.
There is no telling where the water is coming from until you chase all possibilities.

if this helps my boat will get some rain water into it sometimes, first check next time your there if it's salt or fresh water. Next wash the stuff out of the float switch, because the switch sits where all the crap ends up sand and goope ends stuck to the float. And what is a lot of water? 1, 2, 3 inches? Next my boat haves a head with shower that have a sump pump that 's in the tray next to the foward bilge pump, this will also act as a bilge pump so see if the water is stopping at it's level because the shower pump is pumping the water out. the switch should be wire right to the battary, with a fuse next to the battary switchs see if there good, the manual swith over rides the float. but mostlly try to find out where the water is coming from thats more of a trouble than the front float switch not working. a lot of people will fight me on this but I found that my screws that hold on the rub rail were leaking and i feel that was my biggest leak, but I also had , the pump out hose on the deck had a drip, horn screw leaking, window front, side, and not all at the same time but places to look. goog luck, let use know what u find

Sounds like your fuse on the auto bilge is breached. You also have a leak somewhere....surprise. Go with the second post suggestion of closing all thru hulls, dry up the bilge, then check on your next visit. If you find freshwater......you've narrowed it down to sump pump issue, rainwater (doubtful), or freshwater tank/line separation or crack. Had same problem myself but fixed the old fashioned way.....dry storage. Good luck!

I had a leak that caused my forward bilge to run while stopped on the water. I found the leak was the thu-hull transducer at the back of the boat. If your grady is like mine the front sits deeper in the water at rest thah the rear does. Check all below water hull penetrations.
