It should be as that is a strong 150. Grady sold a lot of the cabin model, which weighs slightly more, with a 150. That said, if you are buying new, I would look into one of the new, lighter weight 200 hp Yamahas.

Depends on how you are going to use the boat. If your primary use is cruising, etc... then you will be fine. If you want to pull a skier with 3 or 4 people in the boat, you will be disappointed.

Mine had a F225....the performance numbers were not much different from one with a F200. It was a 46-47 mph top end rig that would cruise all day in the mid-30s and pull a skier with ease.

Am curious about the power needed for a GW 205. Seems that many owners of the 205 have been very happy while others have re-powered to a 200hp or more.

Any comments from those of you who have your own personal experience driving / owning a Grady White 205 with a 150hp would be appreciated!

Grady White produces this summary of performance with the F150 and the F200 on the GW Tournament 205:

F150
test date: 12/07
boat weight: 4,327
0 to 30 mph: 8.11 seconds
Time to plane: 5.73 seconds
Cruise RPM/MPH/GPH: 4200/28.2/7.4
Max RPM/Speed: 6000/42.7

F200
test date: 8/12
boat weight: 4,453 lbs
0 to 30 mph: 8.73 seconds
Time to plane: not listed
Cruise RPM/MPH/GPH: 3900/29.6/8.0
Max RPM/Speed: 6000/45

150 would be fine. If you want to be sure you have plenty of power look into the Yamaha F200 4 stroke 4 cylinder. It weighs only 487lb.s.
My Overnighter 20 has a Suzuki 2 stroke DT225 weighing 470lb.s which I am hoping will power it for a few more years. When the time comes again to repower I've got my eye on the F200. I don't think I'll miss that extra 25hp as 200hp is still very respectable on a 20' boat. Having run a 225 I know I wouldn't be happy dropping down to a 150 but that's me.
I will say that when I want to be on plane I nudge the throttle and its on plane, instantly. It cruises at 30-35 and tops in the high 40's on smooth water. Thats a river thing and seldom happens on the ocean. For running in 3-4' chop a 150 wouldn't make any difference.
Ultimately your really the only one to say if the 150 will make you happy. If you want to be sure though and can make the stretch I'd say get the 200. This way you can cruise at half throttle and still fly when the kid in you takes command.
