Hello all,

I have a 2006 grady white marlin 30'6. I bought seveal months ago. i wanted to clean strainers on AC, raw water, generator in take. However, in order to get to them I would have to remove panels, unscrew all the screws break caulk and re caulk. there has to be easier way to clean strainers. any thoughts.

thanks,

You don't need to take off the cockpit floor. I clean my strainers by folding down the access panel, cite the strainers by eye, lie down on the access panel and reach down and unscrew the strainers. You need a two prong key opener to get the strainer tops off. With a little practice and doing it a few times it is simple enough.

Thanks El Jefe. do you have generator in back? I folded down rear panel, but i barely got a finger tip on stainer top. generator does get in way. I had to cut out caulk , open rear panel and then recaulk when done. major pain in the but. maybe ill get one of my thinner friends to try your way next time. where do you get the two prong key.

It is an adjustable deck plate key. Any decent marine supply will have it. Here is Sea Dog's http://www.sea-dog.com/groups/1773-adju ... -plate-key

Yes I have a generator and it does not get in the way of reaching in to get the strainers.
I have taken off the acces panel and it is a real pia recaulking especiall on the vertical sides where you have to really pile it on.
