I have two gigantic fishboxes in the mid-cockpit area and all they are used for right now are storing junk. They do have drains, but that is all. How do you turn them into a live well?? Is it possible, or are they simply boxes to put ice in? Thanks - gotta be some creative minds out there.

the port size one is your livewell box on most 208s as its a little smaller and does not go back as far. Thats the one I would back my Livewell. I guess you did not get the option when you bought or the Orig Owner did not ask for it. Big Mistake as you can still use it for an ice box. Anyway someone here should be able to help you make it into a livewell.

Livewell

I bought used, the old owner lives in NJ. No need for a livewell in NJ, because everyone knows they only have throw-back flounders. :D

Yup, the port box would be the live-well. If equipped, there is a stern bottom hull pickup, sea cock, pump and supply hose that enters the livewell box near the top. In addition, there is an overflow fitting connected to a thru hull fitting on the port side above the waterline. It is quite difficult to retrofit since the existing tank liner does not come out and getting to the outsides of the tank and inside of the port hull to install fittings is a real bear.
By the way, the original tank uses a rubber plug in the base drain when you want to use it as a live-well. I supposed you could add some sort of aerator pump and just fill the tank manually with a bucket ( I assume you don't have the raw water wash-down option either)

It's a Retrofit

No salt water washdown like you said. He didn't go for many options. Great boat otherwise. I guess all I can do is fill it with ice from some 5 gallon buckets and make a huge ice chest out of it. But thanks for the ideas. There is no existing pump, pickup on the bottom of the hull , wiring etc. Not the end of the world.

The built-in fish boxes make for crappy livewells. The bait is hard to get out, and the lid seal never keeps all the water in so it splashes out when you run up on plane. It is also a horrible shape for keeping 'dines and 'chovies alive. Maybe they work okay on the east coast.

If you're serious about a live well, consider a kodiak mounted in front of the engine. Works exceedingly well, and if you use the quick-mount pads you can quickly remove it when not in use.

Hey Chris --

Thanks - I knew you'd come through sooner or later. BTW, since we're slowly getting Mass cleaned up politically is there any hope for the Peoples' Republic of Sacramento?
