I am finding it hard to believe

No one has the video or link posted to the Grady video of the new 23 Fisherman. I think the back of the boat is pretty ugly, and will be a pain to climb over if you go for a dip , esp for kids. The hard top frame seems nice, the tubing looks smaller diameter and should not flex from loading at all being it completely bolted to the center console. 9 people on that boat? It will look like a ferry and no one will be able to walk ! That transom set up is such wasted space !

So don't buy one. I'm sure you'd be dissappointed in it anyway

well, they didn't call it a 23 Swimmer.

if you want to talk about swim platform access, take a look at the Hacker in the February Boating mag. must be carl lewis' boat! :)

He goes on so much about it being a family boat . 90 percent of the time after coming in from the ocean we hit a local cove and go swimming on our fishing boat. I am still waiting to hear from Chesapeake owners. I am sure the wait will be just as long on this one.

marketing 101. believe half of what you read and none of what you hear.

personally, i focus on things i can touch and feel, build quality, customer service, etc, etc.

we had an '02 gulfstream and you have to get to the swim platform over the transom, we didn't have any problems with it. and the boat was rated for 10 people. the most we had was 8 for cruising and tubing. that was comfortable, but fishing might have been a little crowded. once again, marketing. have you ever seen the ads where they put 20 people in a montauk?

I'm going to the NYC boat show Sunday. It's better to see things in person than go by other's views.

A little off topic but... one thing that always bugged me about a lot of center consoles, (and yes... I've had a couple, lol) - why is the "leaning post" so popular? there's no where to sit, when fishing! You spend some serious time drifting or on anchor... how the hack are you supposed to relax? At least on the walk-arounds you can park it on the fish box's. Granted some models have either swivel helm seats, (which I prefer) or a swing-back seat/cooler set up, but most have the leaning post. Great while your under-way, but totally uses while fishing.

Great points and I totally agree. That's why walkarounds and expresses appeal more to me, you can stand and lean back on the seat when seas are rough and sit and drive comfortably in smooth seas.

I also think walkarounds provide better protection from the elements too, with a larger hardtop and wide windshield in front of you - all protect you better from the sun, wind, and rain. Plus the cockpit is larger on them as well.

It's supposed to be at NYC along with the 36 footer cc, and probably Neese with it or one of the other VPs, so if you go, you can have fun working him over on the whys and why nots. I forgot the VPs name who walked us thru the dual console former Islander hull model.

I'll be on the 36 footer CC myself checking out the built in on-deck propane (I presume) grill, can give me some ideas for my own !

I am not attending the boat shows this year. I really do not need anything. I would not bust the guys balls on something I already can see I would never want nor buy. I am sticking it out with the Gulfstream until the market for boats gets better and I can unload it for something other than almost free. Our new IOM Camaro should be in any week now !

How contrasting, I'd never go to a boat show for that reason, been going for 30 yrs, long before Jacob Javits died and ended up as a name on a building.

I live 10 minutes from a Grady dealer.

Can't sea trail at Jacobs, would be nice however to cruise the Hudson in the 36 footer CC, fry up some fish for fish n chips on the built in grill.
Some illegal bass fishing too. Don't care to own the boat, but just like some women, don't mind enjoying the view and ride.

Well, I certainly see your point. I just go to places/shows/stores when I need something, Last year I wanted to replace my life raft and EPIRB so I went, I picked up a new Viking raft and a new ACR 406GPS EPIRB. I'd never buy a new boat Bob, I sure as hell know you would not either !

The new 23 and the 36 canyon were both in NY. The canyon is very sweet , almost unique. Looks like it could do a lot of things very well. If someone is in the versatile CC market with too much extra cash this boat coul dbe the last one you ever buy. At least until the 39 comes out
(I just made that up . . . . . .or did I?)

I'm not sure why Grady introduced the 23 - seems mostly superfluous in their lineup to me. Time will tell.

The Grady 36 CC was some boat. Particularly the safety glass hardtop enclosure design and if this is the trend it's fine with me. Molded in speakers, handholds along roof rim, forward facing sunroof, LED floods, etc. No more anodized aluminum.

I wouldn't call the boat a CC though, have to come up with some other name. Definitely not a CC with that cabin.

Only one Grady left at show of the walkaround type, old reliable Gulfstream. We've seen this coming for many years. CCs , dual consoles, and expresses.

And the grill is electric not gas, saw the same grill on the big Pursuit.
Cook our lunch on boat!!

True CCs - the Yellowfin 36 and Buddy Davis 34 made my day too. The Yellowfin has a stepped hull starting half way forward, what a hull - that hull with the tripple F350s must be good for 70+ mph. The profile on the Buddy Davis is awesome how the cutback occurs at the cockpit.

The new 23 footer has a soft hartop and the engine well's forward full height bulhead doesn't have to be dropped for full engine tilt. That's why the well and side cabinets extend so far forward seems to me. Has the built-in fold up seat. Drop down cleats. Good boat for single engine only CCers. No problem for kids around the well, and it is tight to the motor.

Too bad Yamaha showed up with the 20 inch bass boat version of the new SHO, and not even a cutaway open view. When I asked where the SW versions were, after a long delay searching for an answer, the rep said won't be on market until late summer.
Yamaha - thanks for insulting coastal fisherman, like how many bass boaters go to NYC Javits?

Pursuit shows their boats nice since the big Raymarine MFDs are installed and hot, running slide shows of fishing photos. Nice sales touch.

The show gets smaller again, soon enough the Nassau Colesium layout will have more. Picked up some discount coupons and checked out my next FF and GPS, and a show price on a 6K BTU A/C unit.

Eastern has a display with the 248, I like the pilot houses.
Wanted to check out the Ranger tug, but not about waiting on a line to do so.

Can't wait until spring! As usual this time of year.
Daylight is getting longer! Soon.

Bob, was the molded top something you'd definitely pick over a tube top? Did it look like it had some substance? How were the prices for 2010?

I'm debating on heading to the show in Boston a month from now...is what's new out there worth seeing?

Was there too today. I think the Buddy Davis, Yellowfin 36(did not like the non skid much), the 37 Pursuit and the 39 Tiara were the best boats there. The 34 Regulator looks very bad for my taste.I have seen the Canyon 366 at the dealer before so no big news to me. Spoke to Grady about the "42 'er" and told me to wait for another 3 years, i have no choice there, from what i understood was that they are waiting from Yamaha on the bigger motors. I mention inboards with Zeus or something similar but they said no way. I'm going again tomorrow to check out again the Tiara 3900. I really liked that boat.

Tiara/Pursuit is a great boat. Good luck on a trade in George !
