Hey guys. Just thought I'd pass on an experience I had Friday night. While heading out to do some fishing, I lost power to my tach and speedo gauges. Weather wasn't very good and not helpful in trying to troubleshoot electrical issues. Decided to stay close and head back in because I didn't have info on engine condition (temp, oil pressure etc.) and didn't know if alarm would ring in with gauges down. Saturday morning back at the marina with drawing and tester in hand. No power to gauges after removing panel. Moving back towards the key, the drawing showed the line was fused but I couldn't find it. After removing the access panel next to the foot rest, I came upon the fuse connection but found the lead to the in-line fuse disconnected. It was right where the wire bundle went up and over the access panel. The position and location of that conection caused it to come apart after hitting some nasty waves. It couldn't have been in a worse spot! I'm back together and will move that fuse connection back so I can see it and get to it in the future.

Question? Does anyone know if warning will sound without power to the Insrument panel? At least I could shut down if it did.

BTW - 06 258 journey with F250

Thanks,

Your Yamaha instruments derive power off the engine via the battery leads and fuses under the cowl, as I believe.

Don't know what the particular fuse is you are referring to.
I don' think there are any inline fuses on my yamaha harnesses, that I recall.

Do you have multifunction, command link, or electro-mechanical instruments?

That was my first thought also but nothing under the cowling labeled for gauges or anything close. I've got command link and after digging through paper work, found the wiring diagram that showed fuses between Key and gauge. Sure enough, they were there but not the problem as i mentioned.

Start the motors with the fuse out and see if the buzzer makes noise at start up.
