I have a 2000 islander. I think the seals/rings went on the Jabsco manual toilet plunger this fall. Has anyone gotten into one of these to replace the seals and rings? I am really NOT looking forward to this one!! Guess I now know what toilet "lubricant" is for..... A whole new unit is only ~$150, is it easier to just swap the whole unit out??? Suggestions?? :(

I think replacement is easier.

But I took it a step further and replaced the manual pump with the electric conversion unit. Fantastic upgrade...

Damn Brian, what haven't you done to that boat?? Thanks for the reply though, you are a goldmine of info and I know I always enjoy hearing how you have improved these systems. I don't post much but I certainly do spend alot of time reading here! Thanks again for your help.

had to replace ours also - it was actually simple and not as "dirty" as you might think it would be

would you care to elaborate?
i've been procrastinating on this one since it looks to be a real dirty and kinda difficult job.
i'm in the process of looking to get a re-build kit for my head in the 282 as it seems like it does not empty/pump thru the discharge anymore.
i thought i might be unscewing the holding tank lid, pulling the pump, replacing seals and replacing pump's impeller or such?

Its great until your toilet see's the "morning after" a night of heavy eating and drinking - It can't "handle the truth" ;)

It's easy

A kit is dirt cheap. It took me and a friend less than 2 hours to take the head out, put in a whole new kit and put it back. Piece of cake. Probably the easiest job I did on my boat.

All right you convinced me. I bought the kit and yes it is easy to fix. You can just pull the pump apparatus off without even messing with the bowl. Takes 30 minutes if you read the directions first or an hour if you do it and then read the directions.:)

I've resealed my electric version. No big deal. The weak link is the paper gaskets used at the macerator base. They fail frequently and are a pain to replace.
