Hello all, I just purchased a new 275 Tournament Hardtop with a 350 Yamaha. I am coming down from a larger twin screw inboard. How does the boat handle in docking situations. Some on this site say a singe is hard to steer in reverse. Is this true, and if so, why. Any other comments on this boat will be appreciated. Thanks, Ron

Well, major congratulations on your new 275, and welcome to this web site.

We had a singe 250HP Yamaha on our 270 Islander when we purchased it, and put 465hrs on it in less than three years. The 270 hull is the same, although a bit more weight and windage forward.

Maneuvering a single outboard is not all that difficult - after all, you can turn the darn thing. Just give yourself some time to get used to it in decent conditions, before you need to put it in the slip with a 30-kt crosswind.. :D

boy, if the economy gets any worse, well have to have a new forum set up for new purchases alone!!

congratulations and best of luck with it!!

ps: i yell at my broker on a regular basis that all the smart guy talking heads have really got this wrong and the worst part of all is they are scaring the heck out of people who can spend and are ready to spend, but won't because the smart guys are telling them we're going into a depression. sorry for venting--my broker doesn't listen to me either.

Welcome to the site and congratulations on the new 275.
I have the same boat in a 2008 with an F350, no hardtop.

Slow speed maneuvering on this boat takes getting use to as it is a long boat to have a single on it. It backs to port like you would expect, very unresponsive. When backing into the slip you need to slide it and not try to power it. I have a port slip and leaned last year to trim the engine up to three or four bars when docking as it felt to me as though the stern was a little more responsive than with it trimmed full down. I also learned to use small bursts of forward to snap the bow to port when backing down into the slip and found myself 2' off of the finger.

In general the boat handles nicely and I have been very pleased with the F350 , the fly by wire controls and the boat and engine as a combination. Plenty of torque out of the hole or in rough water and more than enough speed at top end (about 45 MPH fully loaded). Cruse is at about 30 mph if I remember correctly and about 2.1 mpg. Forget the GW number of 2.4 or 2.5 MPG it is a fairytale. I have had the boat out in sloppy 6’ seas and she handled it like a champ.

Outside of the lower intake port of the engine being underwater all the time and a few very minor issues I have no problems to report after one full season and about 150 hours on the engine. My wife and I love the layout and are very happy with our purchase. If day boating doing a combo of finishing and playing are your thing I think you will be very happy with the 275.
