Hello all,
I just found this site and it's good timing.
I have a 1999 Gulfstream.
I have started focusing on Striper fishing and using live spot for bait.
This past weekend my live well pump acted up.
It had been running fine and I noticed it had stopped when the watet level was down while getting bait.
I shut it off for a few minutes through the dash switch and turned it back on and it ran the rest of the morning.
I will say I do shut it off while running due to water flowing in while moving and I was in some shallow/sandy water (rips) and it might have been running. It's possiable some sand got into it.
Anyway it's a Rule 500 gpm seacock mounted pump.
I have read a few things today that stated that Rule pumps don't have a reputation for longevity.
I have also noticed a little water leaking out of the pump but haven't reached down to investigate yet. I noticed as I was filling the live well with just enough time to make to tide at the Inlet.

What's everyone's thoughts on my pumps condition?
What pump would you replace it with?

Shurflow Pro Baitmaster. Designed for continuous operation, livewell application.
The Rule pumps are notorious for burning out. They are guaranteed but what good is it if your replacing them nevery season?
Break it down, Rule 500 GPH (i'm assuming, not GPM's) is about 8.3 gals a minute-not a lot of water. If it was in a bilge application, the water would be coming faster than it is going out.

How do you get the Rule pump off the Seacock? Does it twist off?

Yes, it's threaded directly onto the seacock stem.
