Hello,

I'm new to this forum. I'm looking at a 1988 2280 cuddy sport with a 1988 Suzuki 200hp outboard. I've always been impressed with GW boats and am thinking of trying to buy just the boat and trailer (w/o the motor) and repowereing with a new Honda 150-200 hp motor. The guy is asking 10,400.00 for the boat/trailer/motor. If I can pick up the boat and trailer for 8-9k and throw a new motor on it, does this seem like good idea?. I thought it would be a good idea to run this by experienced Grady White folks. Thanks

I assume you mean a 228G with a Grady drive. NADA says the boat without engine is average retail for around $5200. What electronics are on board? What condition is it in? I bought mine with engine for $5000 granted it is smaller, but was a fresh water boat and the survey came out great. took $800 in engine work to make it perfect.

If you can afford to go a couple years newer, I would suggest post '91 (92 & newer) b/c of the SeaV2 hull design.
With that being said, the 228 is an awesome boat. I agree w/ Al, 10.4 seems a little strong but in this boating economy, he should work w/ you.
BTW, I think you'll be disapointed w/ a 150 on that rig. At least a 200 2 stroke and you'll be very happy.
