I just purchased a 2001 Marlin with twin 250 Yam OX66. Gave it a test run and winterized it... Any thing that owners of this boat can tell me, ie, What to expect, Problems to look for, Pros, Cons, .. Not sure why they mounted the transom ladder on the opposite side of the transom door ??.. Boat is all covered up and waiting for warm weather and I wished I lived in Florida.!!

I have a sailfish 272 with the same configuration of having the ladder on the opposite side from the transom door. I don't like this set up, I was told that it was done that way so it will be easier to pull large fish onboards and that the ladder would get in the way. A ladder can be put on the transom door side. I am planning on doing it this spring

Same on my 272. It is a pain for scuba diving. If you figure out a way to mount the ladder let me know. The only way I can see to do it is to add an inspection port.

You'll probably run into a macerator problem at some point. The holding tank has an internal macerator.....poor design. My dealer is trying to locate 10 Gallon tank with external macerator and re do the plumbing......cost effectively of course.

I have the Sailfish with the ladder opposite the door. I personally like it

so im not dragging cows over the ladder and chance a line snag or damaging a throw back fish.

To each their own

Ttles,

I purchased a 2000 Marlin in October. They shipped it from Boston to Rochester, NY and it's been winterized and shrinkwrapped ever since. At least you'll be in the water a month before me. My Marlin has 1 1/2 ft. of snow sitting on it right now. Anyways, I'll be following this thread closely as we're both in the same situation. Good Luck & Good Fishing.

I bought my 272 used. It was previously owned by a diver and he put an armstrong ladder on same side as door.
Had to put an access plate ib side of splashwell. Ladder is mounted horizontally across transom.

ttles,
Congrats on the new boat, I think you will be very happy.

I have a 2006 Marlin and the ladder is on the same side as the transom door (starboard side). I prefer this as it makes it easier when taking a swim with the family when it comes time to get back on board. Unfortunately, I have not had the need to open the transom door with a big fish (yet). I am a little concerned that if we are lucky enough to catch a big tuna or a big swordfish, I will have to be careful not to beat the fish up on the ladder (collapsed). I guess this will be a good problem to have...

follow up post to ladder

Well, if I were going to try to mount a ladder, I would be freezing and standing in 2+ feet of snow. !!! BUT...still trying to get some information on mounting a ladder on the "door" side of my marlin. I recall a company out of Fort Lauderdale that made a series of folding stair type ladders (American Ladder). Anyone have any info on them ? Or other ideas ?

Thanks
