I know some guys who have a 2005 Marlin 300 that they keep in a marina. They also have a trailer to load the boat if a hurricane is approaching. They told me after keeping the boat in the marina for about 2 years, they went to load it on the trailer and the trailer leaf springs broke. Is this because the springs lost their "elasticity" from not being compressed for a long time? Anyone else ever heard of this issue?

No, that wouldn't be the cause. I'm not sure how old the trailer is, but it could be from lack of maintenance, old life, inadequate weight capacity or even just a fluke. But simply from non-use wouldn't cause that.
