Does anyone know why my motor would slowly lower itself?

I have twin 1994 yammi 200 SWS.

It noticed after i opened her up for the spring that when i tilt up

the motors and let them sit (any position) the port motor will

slowly lower its self all the way down. takes a few hours, but is noticable

after like half an hour or so.

Anyone see this before?

Thanks for any input.

Try some of the little blue pill

I'm not 100% sure but i think its because of low hydraulic fluid in the tilt pump? I could be wrong on that but either way when you are tilting your motors all the way up (like when your done for the day) you can use the little rotating knuckle on each motor to take the pressure off of your tilt motor. This will stop the motor from sagging and also increase the life of your tilt motor.

You have a fluid pressure bypass somewhere. Run the trim up and down through multiple cycles (flexes the seals) and see if that makes a difference. If not, it'll probably have to be disassembled. :?

lowering

low fluid or you have a bad seal and you're losing pressure.

Thanks Guys,

I will check the fluid first and give the old up and down a try.

That may be the problem not that I think of it it made a little noise

that could be associated with low fluid.

Do I have to use special yamaha fluid? or is there something

I may have on hand like tranny fluid? or helm fluid?

tilt

Noise? If it's making a kind of grinding, crackling noise you are definately low on fluid

Is there any greasy sheen on the water around your boat? My piston seal was failing and i'd see a sheen in the water around the boat from leaking hydrauling fluid, and the engine would raise all the way, but every minute or so youo'd hear a slight creak as it slowly lowered itself, and would be all the way down by the next day.

I have a new engine and jacks and all, and I always raise it all the way, flip down that tow lock and lower the lift jack so its not supporting the engine weight.

I think that even if its low on fluid, you still have a 'leak' of either air or fluid from the lift cylinder, so adding fluid won't solve the problem. You probably need to have the cylinder seal replaced.
