Arg!! :x I bought 2 new brass drains tubes, Mine are worn, cracked
one of flares fell out this weekend exposing the wood behind the geloat.
I tried using a ball peen hammer but destroyed one. had to cut it back out as I also forgot to seal the hole with 5200, good thing too. How the heck do you flare the other end of these, I cannot find any tool to do it. Ball Peen Hammer dont work well at all. Does anyone know where I can get a device that can press and flare this or is there an easier product to use other than the brass tubes?? Need to get this done as i want to get it back in the water and am affraid some may have already soaked the transom. I was in the water for about 8 hours Sat do you think I have done any damage to the transom?

Flaring tools for tubing used to be popular with plumbers and car repair persons but the maximum size was rather small. I don't know what your pipe diameter is.
If you know somebody with a lathe, it is possible to flare the ends of soft metals while they are spinning on a lathe. The metal is not cut like a wood turning, it is kind of burnished with a tool that doesn't have a sharp edge. The heat and pressure of the tool causes the metal tube to flare.

sfc,
Where did you buy the tubes from. I can't find any at the usual hardware places. What size did you go with? I measured about 1 1/8" on my Gulfstream. Is it actually 1 1/4"?

Thanks for all the help Everyone, tried 4 local marinas, no luck, One wanted $200.00 to do it for me????
I left that place laughing.... But finnaly found one in a new marine supply store in Waretown, $25.00 1" in press. If you need to borrow it let me know, I wont charge ya  much. Worst thing about this job is the prevous owner ran the ducer cable thru the drain hole.... :x :x Now I have to spend 2 hours pulling the cable on the starbord side.

When I did my transom, I epoxied pvc tubes in there. I think that will last longer than the brass.
