Mounting a side-scanning transducer

Has anyone sucessfully mounted a side-scanning transducer on the transom of an 208 Adventure or similar hull? The newer StructureScan transducers are 11" long protrude into the engine space (see picture). This may cause signal interference and a degraded image. Is there a better location than the one shown? If the transducer is mounted in the area show, will the port-side image be degraded? I don't want to mount it under the keel.
