Maybe you just need a new two-speed manual. Mine doesn't 'slip' but has a clicker ratchet you flip one way or the other.

I only use the hi-speed drive and it's effortless. The boat floats on to within about foot and a half of the front chock. Launch and retrieve is about 60 seconds each way. It takes longer for me to climb over the truck bed that it does to get the boat off or on.

I used a power winch on my 25 Mako for years with no problems other than user error.
1. Don't over lubricate gears as the grease spins into the clutch plates causing failure.
2. Use only as much clutch pressure a required to retrieve the boat.
3. Make sure your power supply wires are heavy enough to handle the load.
4. Keep all connections clean.

I would go with the 315 or the 712. Bigger is better when it comes to winches. I've owned 3 Powerwinchs over the years. All of them were 912's. I have no experince with the new 215's and 315's but the 912's have been great. I burned one clutch out and it was fixed under warranty. Never had an issue other than that.
