Hey Folks, Just bought myself a new to me, 1996 Grady White 272 Sailfish with 2002 225hp 4 Stroke Yammies. I'll be using the boat out on Lake Ontario salmon fishing. I'm sure to have lots of questions that I'm hoping I can get a little help with from this board. Three I have for now;

1) I would like to replace the curtains. Is there a manufacturer of these curtains you can purchase a set from or better to go to local custom shop and have replacements built?
2) Want to either refresh or replace the Duratrim. Can the Duratrim be painted or better to just replace with something else?
3) I want to install a Lowrance HDS 10. Any ideas on best way to get transducer wire from mounting plate under hull to dash?

First, welcome aboard and congrats on the new boat.

1) Best thing to do is remove what you have and take them to your local shop. MUCH, MUCH cheaper than ordering from a Grady dealer. While you at it, go with a better/thicker clear plastic than the original.

2) Best bet is to replace with starboard. A few member here did it and i hope they chime in.

3) Should be a pvc pipe from the rear of the boat to the cabin/dash area. Try chasing existing wires at the transom(bilge pump wires).

Congrats on the new boat! For the transducer wire there is PVC from the bilge to the starboard side aft bunk. You can unscrew the access panel on the starboard wall and see them.

Thanks for the info. Think I'll try painting the old trim first and see how that works. Not sure if black or white on the trim would look better. Tried looking for starboard but not easy to find a supplier near me so I'll see how painting looks first.

For the transducer question I was thinking more along the lines of do you get a thru hull transducer or drill hole and re seal with epoxy, or run back from transducer plate and go up and over the transom. If thru hull is recommended ... are these transducers as good as the "regular" ones?

In advance thanks.

A friend of mine had a thru hull transducer and ended up replacing it and drilling a hole to get better resolution. I replaced my transducer on my 272 and while it took some time, it can be done. The hardest part was getting a wrench big enough for the nut on the transducer. Ended up with the biggest crescent wrench Harbor Freight sold and still had to grind it to open it up a little.
