Would there be any problems putting a 300 hp Etech on my 2001 gulfstream. it currently has a 2001 250hp yamaha 0x66 on a bracket. thanks for any help.

Have you thought of going to the new Yahama 300 HP motor. These new motors are way down in weight and if I was investing in a new engine and considering 4 stroke vs 2 stroke I would lean towards the 4 stroke. Weight will be similar and if the new engines are as good as Yamaha says, 2 strokes no longer have the advantages of hole shot and mid range acceleration. We have a new Yamaha 250 coming on our 2010 Tour 225 so I hope the data on the new generation motors is accurate. I wonder on pricing how the 300 Yamaha would compare to the 300 Etech. It would be interesting to know.

Not sure on the etech , I looked into putting a 350 Yamaha 4 stroke on a 2004 and the dealer told me the transom would not handle it. It was not a weight issue since the 23 can handle twins. I believe he said it was a torque or thrust issue. The twins could be up to 400 HP but there torque / thrust was distributed differently. They redesigned the hull when the 350 entered the scene .

I would imagine that a 300 ETec would be fine because its a V6 and not a V8 (I believe). Again, the torque would be the issue not the weight. I'm repowering with a new Yamaha V6 300hp in March (most likely). Dealer quoted me right around 28K installed (23K for the motor itself). I read on other forums that they have been used in Japan for the last 3 years and they're practically flawless. Hope this is the case for almost 30k. :roll:
The 300hp E-tec weighs 530lbs.....a Yamaha HPDI 2 stroke weighs 540lbs...a Yamaha 4 stroke F300 weighs 804lbs...your OX66 was in the 530lb range so the 4 stroke would be 270lbs of extra weight....thats not something to sneeze at....stick with a 2s...that transom may be at its limit
Gulf, what model is that lightweight 300hp 4 stroke? The Yamaha web site only shows the F300 at 804lbs.....They have a new V-max series at 300hp but thats a 2 stroke at 539lbs. Is this new model available yet?
My dealer has a 300 on order. March is his best bet of availability.

Wow, that's impressive....they packed a lot of power in such a light engine. I've used plasma spray of machine repairs...it does a great job....I'm a little worried on how close the cylinder walls will be without the iron sleeves and if cooling will ever become an issue, but if it holds together and develops the power they say it will, the competition will be in trouble....light weight and bottom end power of a 2 stroke with the quietness and fuel economy of a 4 stroke......now it comes down to price and longevity....what's the going rate for this bad boy?

The 300hp Etec will take your breath away.. why pay a $10,000 premuim for the Yamaha..???
