Sailfish
Hi I'm a newbee to GW. former Carver cabin cruiser. just downsized to 1999, GW 272 Sailfish in late Oct and on the Hard since Nov, launching in two weeks. It was boathouse kept on chesapeake. very good condition. I'm currently looking to replace my Raymarine and Furano electronics with Garmin system. due to size constraints I seem to have to go with Garmin 943 instead of Garmin 8600 series. electronics guy I trust will be installing etc. Is there anything I need to know as the new guy about these Sailfish 272 boats. thanks

Make sure the decks, transom and stringers are solid and that all areas that could allow water intrusion are well sealed.

I owned a 1999 Sailfish for 6 years and the few things you need to look at are similar to what fish tales says. The transom cap, absolutely needs to be checked and fixed before it goes bad (its a matter of time), check the brass drain tubes in the transom as they can crack leading to a wet transom, the front windows can leak (I fixed with some simple silicon sealant) and finally I’d say to check the hoses that drain the deck. I also did twin Garmin 9 inch because of size. I dont have the boat anymore but only recently sold it. DM me if you have questions.
