Long story short.....

My family fishes a few times a year on Smith Mountain Lake in Virginia. They decided to upgrade our fishing boat to a 21 foot Grady White. The techniques for fishing on the lake is slow trolling live bait with a trolling motor....

What are my options for putting a trolling motor on this boat?

The link is for the trolling motor we currently use on our deck boat. Can we modify this one? What are my options?

Thanks in advance!

I think you will need a transom mounted trolling motor. A bow mount won't have a long enough shaft. Maybe you can get a different mount for the one you have now... Just my thought. Joe.

I don't know what the drop is from the front of your boat to the water, but I've seen a lot of striper fishermen @ Lake Cumberland with some pretty long shafted trolling motors off the bow of some fairly tall boats. I would check with some of your local boys @ Smith Mtn to see what they're using. I'll bet you'll be surprised to find out how big some of their fishing boats are. Good luck and let us know what you find out.

The pic that opens up in your link is not the engine mount trolling motor. Engine mount is just that, engine mount, no shaft. It mounts on the cavitation plate above your prop. I have one and it works fine for my situation. Steer with the helm is the only drawback that I see with it, not like the auto pilot version.

Try this link.
