Nic in Fiberglass on Gunwhale

Hi all,

I recently spotted a nic in the fiberglass on my boat's gunwhale. IT appears to be just a millimeter deep, or so, but clearly goes down to some other (blackish) material. Any tips on how to patch this up, or prevent it from getting any bigger?

A gel repair kit should be OK. Spectrun Color will have kits matched to the original color but depending on how faded your gel coat is, the color may not match perfectly. If color match is not an issue, then products like Marinetex also work well.
If you are good at colors, you can but a gel patch kit with tints. You add a little tint as needed to match the color. If you go that route, try the color on a piece of cardboard or plastic first to see what the color is when dry. I am told that the Grady color can be approximated by adding a small bit of brown tint t the white base but heaven knows not to trust me with colors

the buff is a very good match as long as it is not a very large spot. i do nicks all the time. very easy to use. good luck, ron
