I took the boat for its last ride today before pulling her for the winter. I had some motor problems this year and did not get too much use until I found a new to me yamaha 225 which now runs great. I was in 1-2' seas with nothing crazy for wind and an evenly loaded boat and it kept listing hard to the port side. I only had about a 1/4 of a tank of fuel and the boldness did not have any water in it from what I could see. The only hatch that I could not see was the one the fuel tank was in, but the plugs between the dividers were out and no signs of water. There were a few pucker moments of it leaning harder than I would have thought. My trim tabs stopped working during the season and couldn't get them going while on the water, I have to replace them over the winter.

Is this boat know to list heavy with the limited fuel in Horne tank not weighing it down and then sloshing in the tank or is there so etching else going on. The new to me motor is mounted in the same holes as the old one. I am leaning towards the low fuel tank for lack of ballast and not being able to compensate with the trim tabs broke.

Also the tabs are in the full up position. Anyone ever hear of one capsizing underway for no real reason, I feel that the lean feels a lot worse than it really is, but it's not comfortable either way.

Thanks

Andrew

Listing into the wind? What position did your tabs fail in? Are they both at the same angle or not?

Both tabs failed in the full up position. It is the hydraulic insta trim system. Not sure the wind direction but it kept listing to the same side no matter direction of travel. Thinking the boat is riding on one side of the hull and not the center. Just wondering if this is a known characteristic of this hull without trim tabs and if they are the correct "fix".

Thanks

My 226 lists to port as well. It seems to be a characteristic of the SV2 hull when swinging a heavy stainless steel prop. The condition is easily corrected by applying port tab (the starboard rocker switch). The torque of a single right handed prop tends to cause a list to port on many deep V hulls, particularly those that lack lift strakes running all the way aft like the SV2 hull.

Over the years I've noticed a couple of things that minimize the list. Switching from the heavy stock Saltwater II prop to a lighter Solas reduced the tilt. So did reducing the prop pitch. Some folks have suggested running with the engine trimmed further out, but I haven't found that to make a difference.

I've only had our Offshore on the water once at this point, but it didn't exhibit any of the characteristics you're referring to.

Did you, by chance, have the drive trimmed in pretty far? If so, that's a normal trait of most planing-type hulls. What happens is you get too much hull in the water and it will cause that excessive lean.
