oil not going up to tank

Hey guys, I have a 95 Gulfstream with twin Yamaha 150s. My oil pump stopped working so my main tank wasn't getting oil from the auxiliary tank. I put in a new pump and can hear it working but no oil is being sent up to the main tank still. I emptied and cleaned both tanks, put on a new screen, and checked to see that the lines were all clear. All the flow arrows are pointing in the right direction. It still isn't filling the main tank. Any ideas?

Be sure the line isn't pinched anywhere, I had the line pinched and it was enough to stop flow to the main tank. Next if you're sure the pump is pumping, disconnect the closest connection to the pump and check for flow then work your way to the motor.

You indicated a new screen, but I don't know what that is.

Did you change the little, $11, in-line filter that is UNDER the oil tank? These do get clogged up, and will block flow up to the engine.

We have a Mercury with an auxiliary tank. We were going through a no wake zone when the overheat alarm came on. I stopped the motor and took off the cowling. A guy with a Yamaha pulled up and when I said what was happening he asked if I had primed the oil on the small tank under the cowling. He said occasionally when he adds to the auxiliary tank he loses his prime. It was great advice. When I add oil now I always make sure to prime or loosen the cap on the side of the motor until a little oil comes out.

I assumed he meant that but if it wasn't changed, then yea that's most likely the problem.

Assuming the pump is running, it should be quite simple to locate the blockage. Pull the hose from the output of the pump and using a spare piece of hose ( or not and deal with some oil), turn on the pump. You either have oil flow or you don't.
If you do, reconnect the hose and undo the hose after the filter. Same thing: There is pumped oil or there isn't. If there is, the next place is where the oil line enters the main tank on the motor. Pull the hose and run the pump. There is either oil or there isn't

Hey guys,
I had changed the filter. I only called it a screen because that is what Yamaha called it. I had already checked all the lines and they were clear. I was curious if it needed to be primed in some way or would the pump eventually work the oil up there. I had the pump running for about ten minutes with no result.
Today , I undid a couple connections and tried to force some oil into the lines. I turned on the key and and the tank started to fill immediately! Problem solved.
