I am a new Grady owner after wishing to own one for a long time. I bought a 1986 Offshore with the original 200hp Yamaha all in remarkable good condition. All of the previous owners took great care of the boat and it shows. I since found a 1999 Yamaha OX66 225hp with a rebuilt top end and 1 year warranty I had put on the boat for a pretty fair price.

My question is there is a primer bulb on the oil line at the back of the boat. The oil tank is at the helm on the port side at the base of the seat. This is my 5th Yamaha outboard and my first experience with a primer bulb on the oil line. Is this something that only needs to be done if the tank runs real low, or at the beginning of each day when I prime the fuel?

Thanks

Andrew

Also I am looking to sell my old boat, is the classified ads here just for grady's? Dont see any other brands listed and don't want to break any rules!

Normally there is a gear pump on the oil tank to fill the tank on the motor. Good luck trying to suck oil through a gear pump (or at least one that's in working condition). I'd check out the whole system before using the boat, clean the oil tank (take that one from experience), change the little in line filter, check the oil pump, check the oil @ the motor, and watch it fill automatically.

The Grog has it right. I think someone has moved the oil tank. In addition to everything he said, I would also remove and clean out the engine mounted oil tank then run some diesel through the system holding a coffee can where the line ends at the engine oil tank. Run the motor on premix when doing this.
