I have recently adjusted the oil rods on my 200hpdi's which were using oil at about a 25/1 ratio.
Has anyone got numbers on what to expect with the hpdi's at cruise ie. 4,000rpm and what difference at trolling ie. 1500 rpm ?
Thanks

No replies.....does this mean no-one has ever calculated how much oil their 2 strokes are using x fuel?

1 in 25 seems like a lot of oil.

I have a 1991 Yamaha 90TRP and have confirmed oil injection system according to the service manual.

Also have an older Honda BF100S four stroke.

Records for the past 210 hours:

Yamaha 76 hours @ low speed
Yamaha 97 hours @ high speed
Honda 53 hours (estimate < 53 gal)
Total gas = 576-53=523 Gallons Yahama or 2092 Quarts of gasoline

TCW3 total 25.7 Quarts of oil

2092/25.7 = 81.4/1

Yamaha low/high speed 3 GPH total

or aprox 4.6 GPH @ 3600 RPM

Oil injection, would estimate 50/1 @ High Speed and 100/1 @ Low Speed.

Check your 200HPDI's Service Manual;
all I needed was a premix tank and measuring beakers to collect disconnected injection lines,
run, time and measure.

I keep logs of fuel and oil used.
On my 150 SX I run close to the 50 to 1 ratio.
There is a procedure in the motor manual fo measuring the oil discharge rate

Did you adjust the oil rods to Yamaha factory spec per manual?

I would say you are using twice as much oil than expected, but you can ask Andy over at THT SIM the same question, he would know.

I had already ascertained that I was using way over the amount of oil and it was helping to foul the plugs at trolling speeds.
After talking to White Bear on the Stripers forum I decided to adjust the rods and then got my mechjanic to confirm that I was on the right track.
He then adjusted them back even more to the prescribed 30thou setting.
As yet I haven't measured my oil usage but i do know I'm using a lot less.
I just thought you guys would have some real life numbers for me to think about.
Interestingly I was at the mechanics today and he had another 200hpdi in for service and the oiling up problem . So I got him to pull the cowl on the motor and sure enough it was set 2-3 times more than necessary.
White Bear said that it is set high at the factory for run-in and should be adjusted at the 10 hour service. However many (and obviously here) the adjustment is often not made. It's an easy thing to do yourself and can make a substantial difference to the motors performance in fishing situations particularly. Thanks for the info.
My motors are running sweetly at the moment and I'm seeing 1.9 miles to the gallon regularly

your oil consumption will vary depending on your speed. In the "old days"
2 strokes smoked alot at low idle b/c they were fed the same amount of oil throughout the throttle range. Todays smart engines regulate the amount of oil being sent so they will run leaner at different RPM's.
