Hello-
Anybody have experience with yam f250 xca? looking at possible repower on existing sailfish or possible repower on marlin under consideration for purchase. sailfish currently powered by 250 txrs. marlin powered by 225 txrs. I see 2017 xca (new) motors online at $12K each. will they work as replacements? what's the main differences? good idea?

thanks for any input

I have a 2006 sailfish 282. I just re-powered with Yamaha F300s. I could not be happier. I have more horsepower better speed, but most importantly, my fuel economy increased by 20%!

When we purchased our 2004 SF - we had two to choose from - the other boat was a 2005 with the fold down transom seat. Since our boat was going to be used 50/50 fishing cruising, the cruising side won out bc they thought the molded seat was more comfortable for lounging and relaxing. . We recently repowered our Sf with F250s replace F225s(exhaust corrosion). The 250s are a very good match for the SF - either way you will be getting a great boat - good luck

I think my biggest question would be where are you finding brand new 2017 motors, which are almost 10 years old now, for $12k a piece? That sounds very much like a scam to me.

hmmm. you might be right. interesting. further research.

Yeah... when doing a Google search for what you said, it came up with a bunch of different websites from Indonesia or something similar. Either that, or they do have some here in the US but those look to be scams as well, considering the email address is usually a Gmail one, or the physical address doesn't exist, etc. A brand new Yamaha F250 is going to be at least $25k and if you're finding them for half of that, that's a very good sign that it's a scam. If you're trying to save some money with a repower, I'd definitely look at Suzuki, as you can find their Suzuki DF250AP outboards for sale for less than $20k a piece.

Exactly!

The DF250 is a proven engine with no flaws and the higher lower unit gear reduction will let you install at least 2" more pitch props what should lower your cruising speed rpm's what should lead to much better fuel economy.

thanks. will definitely give them a look.
