What is the most popular power choice for 268 Islanders? I see a bunch with twin 150s all the way up to 225s. What is this forum's suggestion/recommendation? I don't need to have the most power but I absolutely don't want to be underpowered. Thanks

We purchased our 2002 Islander 270 new with a single 250HP OX66. Put 465 hrs on it, then repowered to twin F150s. Now have over 750 hrs on the twins.

I think the F150s are perfect 4S engines on this boat. I personally think the F225s are a lot more weight for extra speed that you probably don't need.

I also think a pair of 150HPDI, or 200HPDI, would also be excellent, if you are happy with 2S.

In fact, I think I'd rather have the 200HPDIs than the F225s..

JMHO.

During the selection process for my 275 I looked at the F350, twin 150's, 200's, 225's and 250's. I was amazed to learn that there is virtually no performance improvement between the twin 150's and the twin 200's and only a small increase with the twin 225's. Twin 250’s gave a nice improvement in performance and price.

In the pecking order of performance to $$ the F350 and the twin 150's were the clear winners. I went with the single F350 so I can't help you beyond my observations. All of the information you need on performance is on the GW or Yamaha web sites. Print it all out and do a comparison I think you will agree twin 150 are a great bang for the buck.

Thanks for the insight. I think I needed to hear that twin 150s were OK because while searching for my boat I'm finding that set-up quite often. I was concerned with under power but from what you're both telling me, my concerns are not necessary. Thanks

If you are looking for older models, most were equipped with the single 250 OX66 - as a case for attractive pricing, perhaps those repowered since then may have been twin'ed up.
