Hello,

I've just purchased a 1994 Tournament 192 with Evinrude 150. I got a very good deal IMHO - I hadn't planned on buying a "new" boat but this was too good to pass up.

Anyway, I took her out for a trial and the engine ran great (only 153 hours!). I was somewhat concerned though when I could barely get 5100 RPM WOT with engine trimmed up and getting maximum speed (measured with GPS, around 38MPH). Now, I had 4 people and a dog, full water, and 1/2 tank of gas, but thought the RPM should be higher when propped correctly. Is this correct? I posted on iBoats.com and those guys seem to think a 2 stroke Evinrude can and should tach way higher. My main concern is for the engine and its logevity, not top end speed. My current boat goes 40 on a good day, and I'm never in a hurry.

Should I try raising the motor a notch? Lower the pitch 2"? Not worry about it and do nothing? Any suggestions or comments welcome.

I have a 2002 Tournament 192 with a 150HP 4 stroke. The prop pitch is 17" and I reach close to 6000 RPM at full throttle (43 mph). If you have a 19" prop, you may want to consider trying a 17" one.

The 2 stroke WOT range is at the low end of where it belongs.

Was the water flat when you did the WOT test, how about wind? If there was wind did, did you run both directions?

If you intend to load the boat the same regularly, and the RPM bothers you, get another prop one pitch less.

Suggest you drain and hand clean out the two stroke oil tank, sludge forms and water collects at the bottom. Then refill with fresh oil.
Use ringfree or equivalent, and startron or equivalent.

I had the oil tank removed, cleaned etc. and the engine has been tuned etc. I'm satisfied with the way the engine runs as I've pulled waterskiers and could yank even the heaviest guy right out on one ski. When I did the test there wasn't much wind and I did go both directions for the speed test since there is normally a current which would affect the GPS speed reading. I looked at the prop and I could have sworn it said "15x16" which doesn't seem correct. It is SS and does have a small ding where the former owner must have hit a dead head. During the offseason I'll have the ding hammered out or buy a new prop once I figure out if I need to change size/pitch.
