My 2004 180 Sportsman came with a Honda 150 and one rusty ignition key. I wanted to get some spares before I lost this one and looked on line. Now I'm referring to the all metal keys ( they have a black plastic sleeve you remove) used the larger engines with the ignition on the dash panel, not the smaller ones where the key has a plastic handle and goes into the side mount throttle/shift control.
The key is not one you can get at the hardware, Honda wants $15. My key had a "1C" stamped on it so I started searching around. Turns out Honda, and other manufacturers only use about 12 different keys, each with a different letter/number on it.
After more searching I saw that Mercury does the same and had a 1C that looked just like mine so I took a chance. I got them for $3.99 at Crowleys Marine, they came today and sure enough, they fit.
Funny to think that my key will start 1 out of every 12 Honda's...
