Question about 94 Grady white 228 seafer

I am going to look at the boat this Friday, It is 1994 Grady White 228 Seafer with 2009 Etec 225 hp. with hard top. Is anyone know how this engine will perform on this boat? I would like to know Pro. and Cons. on this boat and engine. Thanks in advance

HP wise, its fine. 280 hp is the max rating.

I have a 2000 228 Seafarer with a 200HP Yamaha HPDI, and it does just fine with that horsepower. I probably won't win any speed trials with it, but that's OK, it goes plenty fast for me. I have heard the 228 described as the SUV of boats, and I think that's true. It does everything we want it to do from fishing, cruising, and just hanging out. I think you will be pleased with it.

I have an '89 228 with an '07 ETEC 225 and it is a fantastic engine for the boat. plenty of power and very quick out of the hole.

Its interesting that a 94 228 seafer has a 280hp maximim when my 94 225 tourney, with solid transon and bracket, has a 235 max. I have a 250 hpdi on it anyway, but I dont understand why the seafer has a larger HP rating when its essentially the same boat?

My boat runs awesome with the 250 hpdi, but after reading this post and several similar, I am serioulsy considering a new 200 hpdi while they are still making them. Its about 50lbs lighter and I can use all of my origional rigging and guages, and have a brand new motor. I am just cocenred with pulling skiers and/or having a loaded boat and lack of power.
