Question about outboard size for 306 Bimini

My son is very close to buying a 1999 306 Bimini. It has 2006 twin Yamaha 300s on it. I understand the boat was originally rated for 225s or 250s. He's going to use it in the Caribbean in water where it's always rough. Are those 300s too heavy? Any help appreciated.

Outboard rating max is 500HP, could be an insurance issue if over powered. I don't think the weight will be an issue. A two stroke is lighter than a 4 stroke usually. In 1999 a 250 2-stroke weighted 551 lbs. The F225 was introduced in 2001 and was on the 2002 model year and weighed 583 lbs.

Yeah, Yamaha 4 strokes are all about the same weight from 225hp to 300. I have 3.3L 225s and if I went to 300hp pair I could drop as much as 40-50 lbs total.
