Does anyone have a proven/suggested replacement for the spiral hose protector that covers the hose bundle that goes out the gunwale and into the outboard cowling on a 2 stroke Yamaha 175TXRT on a Tournament 192?

I'm guessing the bundle of hoses is about 2" uncompressed, so I was thinking about 1.25" inside diameter but am not sure. I'm struggling to find something marked for marine hoses unless I buy much, much more than I need.

Any suggestions on brand, size, length, or even key specs or search words to help me find the right product would be appreciated.

Thanks,

T.

As noted above, "rigging hose" is what you want to look for. Do you need to match it up to the outlet on the boat and the inlet on the motor? You'll need the same size as what you have. I "think" rigging hose is all pretty much standard, though - but double check.

TH Marine has a nice, zippered "sleeve" that's pretty cool.

I kept googling with some of the hints above and decided on "Kable Kontrol™ Cyclone Hydraulic Hose Wrap Spiral Tubing" with 1" diameter even though I had to buy 66 feet of it, probably more than quadruple what I need. It's HDPE and made for extreme conditions so I think it will fit the bill even though it's not marine specific.

I didn't want to use a solid rigging hose because I don't want to redo the throttle, hydraulic steering, oil, and other connections I'm not touching right now, and I prefer the spiral look to the split rigging hose, allowing the primer and steering to break out, etc.. My OEM rigging used a heavy duty spiral loom, and I'm a bit particular on trying to keep things close to OEM. It looked sharp for a long time.

Go with the zipper sleeve. You’ll end up replacing the stock rigging tube if your motors are raised out of the water and they are not positioned correctly prior to raising by someone. Just another less than optimal design.

I understand the want to be OEM, but the reality is that there are often BETTER products than what Grady (and, truthfully, most manufacturers) use.

If you're saying that what you pictured is similar to what you are calling OEM... I've never seen that stuff used from a factory.

Will that stuff even stay in place with the up/down/left/right movement of the engine?

How are you getting that stuff back into the engine's female fitting with all of the other cables there, as well?

So... you have manually wrap the entire cable like using electrical tape? Not me! :)

It's your boat, so of course do what you want, but there are much better ways to do things than that.
