Well, this weekend I sprayed the trash can cover to the Islander and the color match looks horrible. I used the Spectrum gel coat for Grady which matches the underside of the hatch cover but not the surrounding faded deck color. It is obvious that it has been repaired by the color mismatch. The original deck appears pink in comparrison to the resprayed lid. Can a fiberglass shop match the faded color? I wouldn't know what color to add to match the old faded deck. The structural repair looks great, just the color is bad.

Go to a grady dealer and get factory gel. Mix this with what spectrum said would match to get your match. On my 85 overnighter the mix ratio was:

1 part spectrum

2 parts grady

10% acetone for thinning

You will probably have to adjust for perfection. You may read that Spectrum is Grady's supplier and that very well may be the case, but when you see both products next to each other you will see that they are not the same.

I've gotten perfect topside matches on an '85 and a '93 just by adding a TINY...and I mean TINY...amount of brown coloring agent to straight white gelcoat.
