Bobcat: Other marlin owners will answer your question. I just wanted to point out that the F250 costs nearly the same as the F225 and gives a fair amount more power in the mid-range. Weight is alo nearly the same.

Draw back is F250 requires 89 ocrane while the F225 requires 87 octane.

By the way, welcome home and thank you.

ditto

I wouldn't do it for saving gas $. If you don't trust the EFI's then repower but don't do it because you think you might gas money. The OX-66's are great engines a little thirsty but reliable strong motors.

F225's are no where near as powerful as your 250's. Good engines but they exaggerated the HP.

To repower solely for the cost of fuel would be a mistake in my opinion. If there are other reasons like quiet motor, reliability, no smoke etc then fine but just to save fuel makes no sense.

For example - to put new Yamaha 200 4 strokes on my Dolphin would run between 33-35k. Lets say I can sell my existing Yamaha 200 2 strokes for $6000 for the pair (purely a guess there)- That means I am laying down 27-29K for new power. If solely for gas I would have to use one heck of alot of gas to make up that difference. Now of course my resale value would go up - I guess we could figure that in - but still I think it would take a really long time to recover that cost -

If you find a nice used pair of four strokes that you can get a nice deal on then maybe the math would change.

Just my 2 cents - of course opinions vary on this.

Thank you for the support

Thanks Everone,my 250 EFIs are running great it is the fuel & reliability i am thinking about. my thoughts are to find a used pair of f225 or 250s still under wattanty for sure. But loaded w/friends and fishing gear and or the dive gear and a few beers for sure.

My EFIs get 7/8 of a mile to the gal. around 4k.i get to come home in August so i have been surfing internet for good used set of Four Strokes their has been a couple sets of F225s but no F250s.

Thank you sraab928; you are right on with the Math i have run the numbers so many times now i do not even need a calculator.

Regards: Bobcat25 from Baghdad Sand storms and 130 degrees.
If i only was on my Grady and had a Miller Lite. Hmmmm

The math will make you dizzy...lol - I only say this as I have been doing it myself. I would like a quieter, easier starting newer set of motors, but I am having a hard time with the math. :D

Good luck with your decision!

Thanks for serving our country both in Iraq and back here at home! You deserve any damn engines that you want!!

What you could do, is to have the EFIs thoroughly gone through when you get home and then go from there. Use them while you search for used F-250s. When you find them, buy them. Good used engines are the way to go.....
